A famous and somewhat eccentric novelist living isolation from the nearest town by this own preference, wanting independence from his autocratic and domineering relatives in the main house. His mood varies from mild tolerance to all out crankiness as he is easily annoyed and difficult to appease. His sense of decorum is to ignore the rules and offer curt opinions on the matter, whether they are wanted or not. He is his own master.

Wanting to forget a tragic past and erase it from her memory, she left her family and took up a housekeeping job she saw from an ad in a town she came to—despite the many discouragement by the townsfolk. She was no less forced to tolerate her new employer’s mercurial moods if she wanted to remain, no matter how much he pried into her past. Tries to retain an expressionless exterior under all the unpredictable demands, she proved to be an enigma to Rose and the writer in him found an interest in unraveling the mystery behind her and often resulting in a cold silent war.

Quarter German and the rest from traditional upbringing, he resigned from his work at an editorial company to take over the family business when his father retired. Due to a sense of responsibility he married the woman his family chose. It was a match he couldn’t disapprove as he got along well with her, even managed to have an heir after a year, but the family business often sent him away. He never became aware of his wife’s anxieties and insecurities until it was too late. He is close friends with Rose, probably the only person who could get along with him.

Editor to Rose Merill—a most troublesome and difficult task she ever had to handle—as well as his biggest fan. She was a well-reputed ambitious editor with a cool demeanor, but that now often cracked under pressure even since she handled Rose Merill’s works. Rumors have it they share an intimate relationship rather than the business one they show in public. She has no hidden feelings for Rose except admiration for his work, and maybe respect if he stopped leaving her hanging on deadlines intentionally.  However, she did like a superior of hers from work but kept her feelings to herself when he resigned from the company to marry.

Hugh and Megan’s young son who now accompanies his father wherever he goes since the death of his mother. He rarely speaks and when he does it was always in the presence of his parent and Alix. A very energetic toddler but prone to getting colds or the chills which is a constant worry to his sire and his favorite aunt.

A distant cousin of Rose chosen to be his betroth but the arrangement was never official. The only daughter of his parents, favored by the head of the family, and pampered by relatives, she is a pampered and spoiled little princess who is naïve as well as clueless in most ways of the world. She believes herself to be fated with Rose, always having fanciful thoughts of their non-existent romance with qualities of a prince in her dreams. Any slander to his name she refused to believe.

Daughter of a millionaire magnate in the movie industry who met Rose during a double celebration on both parties after a successful deal that went through for their companies and after the release of one of his books. They had a brief affair that lasted only one night, however what she tells acquaintances was a different story than the non-existent relationship she claims they shared. After she found his current residence after a year without news of him, she has been dropping by his place.

Older half-sister of Alix and wife to Hugh. A dependent, insecure and weak woman but very beautiful to look upon, could be why Hugh never knew her true nature when they married. When she was told to marry him she thought she finally had someone she could lean on. But after the birth of their first child she became frantic and prone to bouts of nervousness. With Hugh often away on business and trips she began to lavish in the interest and attentions Hugh’s half-brother showered upon her, even disregarding the fact that the man was promised to her younger sister who never knew of the affair until tragedy befell them.

RAEBERT OSWALD

Younger half-brother to Hugh. He was the kind of guy who is easily attracted to anything beautiful and because of it he has become obsessed with his sister-in-law, Megan, and attracted to her vulnerability. When his family arranged him in marriage with the other sister, he was vexed at first but later accepted when he saw the sister resembled Megan in some ways—but her personality was a complete contrast than he expected. Despite all that, he was quite adamant in wanting to paint Megan during the course of his betrothal period to the point that he seduced the woman, a liaison they continued for several months until her conscience finally came to Megan and she wanted to end things with him admitting that she somehow loved her husband more, but he wouldn’t accept it. The guilt was too much for Megan that she ended her own life after writing a full confession of her affair in a letter she left for Alix. Raebert became aggressive when Alix discovered of his unfaithfulness and wanted to terminate their affiance. Something had snapped in him where he nearly killed Alix in the process when, of all people she went crying to, was his brother, Hugh.
